My names kathleen robertson, I am a scottish live performing musician currently based in Australia. Typically and ironically, my music journey began from a young age. I had a band around the beginning of 2013 called ‘Joy Acoustics’ which was a great experience. I really developed my musical abilities by being able to work alongside other musicians. We then went on to win a competition covering the Highlands, to produce a three track demo ( Big Barn Sessions, isles of skye) CD in 2014. Naturally, I have always put my feelings, opinions and emotions in my singing whilst performing. I believe in singing from the soul. I believe it’s why I get those strong, emotional and powerful vocals through my songs. I always mean what I sing in my performances. I'm only young but I feel I have stories to tell, even if they're not my stories. My outlet in telling these stories, is by making music. From a young age I was listening to a lot of 1980's music and artists such as Moby, Joy Division, The Jam, Irma thomas and Coldplay. I took influence from artists who delivered thought provoking lyrics. In saying that, I am a musician solely from owning a talent of creativity and emotion. My skill lays in performance and music.I feel new wave, cultural and old soul music are the most important types of music you can get in this world. Those three styles are so diverse, yet to me, they fit perfectly together when making a song. I love being able to sing and play guitar to people. Come 2018, I was exploring my music influences further and took real interest in my cultural roots . Discovering Gaelic singing and artists like 'Martyn Bennett' , opened new room for experimenting with my own musical abilities and attributes. I started to dig deeper into older styles of music and sampling them alongside modern beats. I decided to create music in an alternative, yet cultural style and perform as a soloist. This led to recognition and becoming the oban live unsigned winner of 2018, an experience I'll never forget.
